Sugar-Lump For A Working Mule

Sugar-Lump For A Working Mule

Slackers who refuse
to diddle a line
’cause the pen’s outta reach
or there ain’t enough wine;
sorry excuses
for poets who say
that they’ll squeeze out a rhyme
on the next sunny day,
should be left in the rain
and properly cursed,
should be made to drink saki
’til their stinking spleens burst!

I cannot abide
a writer who won’t write,
who stares into space
with faraway eyes;
a poet who sits idle
in the candlelight,
gathering dust &
attracting flies,
should be flogged like a beast
’til he versifies!

  1. Lest I incur the wrath of Marino
    Get soaked with saki and
    Exploding spleeno.
    I’m compelled herewith
    To write this verse.
    (I’ve written better,
    I’ve written worse).
    So tis not that rhyming bitch
    Calliope or lingering sense of
    Literary propriety
    But the stress of being thought
    A procrastinator
    Which is, I confess, this “diddle’s”
    Originator. — N. Lincoln
